Sylvania is a small, rural area west of Stonevale and is known for its vampiric population. Most of the vampires keep to themselves and prefer to keep to their own, mostly shunning the human population. Not too strange, since the humans of Stonevale do not exactly find great comfort in being looked upon as some kind of livestock to be treated according to its masters’ whims.

There is about 1.000 vampires in total in all of Sylvania, and a third of them take great delight in hunting humans, while the rest feed as seldomly as they can, making sure they do not add unnecessarily to the number of vampires already taxing on the human population. According to legend, a vampiric demon goddess was turned into a vampire when she esacped her prison in the Underdark. Once freed, she fed on a demon named Nosferatu, which later found his way up to the surface during The Dragon Wars. There, Nosferatu encountered a powerful green dragon, but managed to defeat it and disappeared to some unknown location, not making its presence known again. But the dragon wasn’t killed wholly by Nosferatu and turned into a vampiric green dragon. The dragon, Ryshman, fled to a forest now known as Ryshman’s Forest and started turning beasts and creatures into vampires who could protect him and his newly founded forest kingdom. And after not too long, Ryshman started to feed upon the population of Sylvania, turning more than a few of them into vampires in the process. And that was the birth of the Sylvanian vampires.

The vampires who chose loyalty towards Ryshman either joined his Blood Guard, whose main task is to make sure no living creature enters the middle of Ryshman’s Forest, or they were given lands or even villages or small towns to rule. But many vampires did not look favourably upon this curse of unlife and fled from Ryshman. Some of these formed The Silver Riders, a paladin order sworn to kill the evil dragon. But century upon century later, Ryshman still enslaves Sylvania and he might even have found some new allies in the growing Order of the Dracul, led by the maverick Balthazar Ilvatu.

The Need for Blood:
Evil vampires need human blood once a month.
Nautral vampires need some kind of blood once a month and human blood once a year.
Good vampires need some kind of blood once a year and human blood every ten years.

In order to satiate the thirst, a vampire needs to drain a total of 24 HD creatures. and to satisfy the need for human blood, they need to drain 24 constitution. If a vampire fails to obey his thirst, he will lose 1 str/dex/con and 1 movement rate every week until he drinks (at which point he will regain his lost abilities). But if he is unable or unwilling to drink any blood at all, he will finally dry up and enter a state of suspended animation until he is able to get blood somehow. In this state, he is rendered comatose and helpless.

Draining:
When a Sylvanian vampire bites someone, he drains them of 1d6 constitution every round. If the victim reaches 0 con or lower, it dies. but if the vampire stops draining before the victime reaches 0, the constitution loss will either be permanent or it will return to normal as a result of the victim being turned into a vampire. The chance of being turned into a vampire is 5% pr. point of constitution drained. However, in order to stop draining a victim, the vampire needs to succeed a wisdom check (DC 10+1 pr. con drained). A person being turned into a vampire will keep his alignment, but creatures/animals/monsters being turned will become evil. A person killed by draining cannot be raised or resurrected. If such an attempt is tried, the victim will become a ghoul of same HD as it had in life.

The Silver Riders:

The vampire paladin order has only one goal, and that is to kill the vampiric green dragon, Ryshman. If Ryshman ever dies, either by their hands or in some other way, the order will dissolve and all members will lose their paladin powers, turning all of them into regular fighters. Their crest is a silver eagle on a red background, and at level 5, a silver rider paladin will venture to the top of Mount Batten to find and bond with a giant eagle steed. Whenever a silver rider drains another creature of blood (24 HD creatures once a year), he must atone by seeking out a non-vampiric priest of good alignment who is willing to cast Atonement on him (his paladin powers will be revoked until ha has been granted atonement). But whenever he drains human blood (24 con every 10 years), his powers will be revoked until he completes a quest given to him by his deity. If a silver rider ever turns another being into a vampire, he will forever lose his paladinhood.

(a successful Netherworld Knowledge check DC 35 is needed to learn this)
After reducing its hit points to 0 or lower, a wooden stake to the heart will utterly destroy it. The only way to give a Sylvanian vampire it’s former mortal self back is known by the legendary Mordenkainen, currently residing in city of Union.
